My compassionate, curious and adventurous personalities have led me to pursue the Psychology field. The initial exposure and experience at the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) has changed my perspectives towards the treatment of mental illness and sparked my interest in chasing my dream to be a clinical psychologist. I really believe in providing a positive influence in the lives of people and helping people improve their lives.

Experience

I have more than 10 years of experience working with various populations of clients, including students, children, teenagers, adults, stroke patients, as well as severe mentally ill clients. I am fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, Cantonese, and Teochew.

In my graduate programme, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). In addition, I am also specialised in clinical interviewing and psychological testing. The opportunity to practice my clinical skills started through internships at private psychology centre and government hospital. These exposures provided me with the clinical skills as a provider and evaluator of mental health service. I was placed mainly in Centre for Psychological and Counselling Services at HELP University and Hospital Selayang; reaching out to shelter home and special kids’ day-care centre. As the internship progressed, my faith in public service was tied to my own sense of social responsibility.

My experience working with communities led me to volunteer for the post-earthquake psychological relief work in YuShu Province, China for the earthquake victims. I was providing psychological relief to those victims through primary school counselling, community outreach, home visit, individual and group therapy (e.g., play therapy, expressive art therapy, supportive therapy) for three weeks. I was more interested in playing a constructive role in helping the people of this communities to overcoming the mental trauma after the crisis.  I believe that my experience gained through this project has prepared myself for the future collaboration with public service organisations.

In addition to seeing clients, I did organise workshops/ training/ public talks/ activities based on the needs of the clients. Example of events are Children’s Mental Health: The Special Kids, Family Outreach, Grieving, Stress Management, Time Management, Motivational Talk, Leadership workshop, and etc.

Since the completion of my studies, I have been attending many professional trainings to further enhance my skills to design, deliver and evaluate the mental health service. I received few certificates such as Certificate in Jungian based Sandtray Therapy from an America psychologist, Certificate in Person Centered Approach Play Therapy.

My Passion

I value healthy lifestyle while dedicating my life to serve the community. I believe that one can enhance or overcome their challenges in life with perseverance. I empower and prioritize clients’ needs. My satisfaction and motivation to dedicate my life, comes from the clients’ improvement.

I am always aspired to deliver the “highest standard of clinical psychology services to achieve effective outcome and continually improve the process that guides the delivery of mental health services.”

Other Experience

Besides seeing clients, I am also an academician. I was the Deputy Head (Psychology, Communication and Design) at SEGi University / College Kota Damansara. The aim was to educate and bring in more students in psychology field, while creating awareness of mental health through talks to the public and students. Currently, I am also supervising Master of Clinical Psychology students from HELP University.
